Cosmos History
Our team as we know it, "Cosmos", was my favorite Soccer team as a child. The name was taken from that of the New York Cosmos, est. 1971. This was a very successful team, fielding players such as Brazil's Pele, and Carlos Alberto, along with Italian goal scorer Giorgio Chinaglie, winning many championships in the 1970's.
In Fall of 1996, my children, Erika and Joey entered the MSA pool, my son being placed on team "Heros". This was an older team, as my sons age group was full. The following fall, 1997, Joey wanted "his own team", so the "Cosmos" he got. We had a very successful team early on, this was Joey's u6 year. In the fall of 1999, we added a fine player, and former competitor, Josh Gallegos. He brought to the team two things, knowledge of the game, and Coach Floyd. With these additions, the Indoor, and Outdoor wins became very common, with Tournament wins, City Championships, and Indoor Championships, from year 2000, to date. At the end of Joey's u10 year, he went on to play competitive, I stepped away for the 97 team, and Lloyd Gallegos stepped in with Floyd, the 93 Cosmos from that date went on to enjoy greatness!
Today, we have an exceptional 97' team, already with multiple 1st place trophies, and a 96% winning record, since it's start in 2001.
The History of the Cosmos is as bright as it's future, players, and parents.

Cosmos enter their 3rd straight finals appearance as #2
rank. Regular season play vs. FC Barcelona ended in a 1-0 loss for Cosmos in a
great game by both teams.
This is also the 5th straight season Cosmos have made post season play. In the
'04-'05 season, Cosmos played up in age, with two straight seasons of making it
to the second round. In the '05-'06 season, Cosmos went 9-1 in the regular Fall
season to meet FC Barcelona in the final to end in 2-0 victory. The following
Spring season, our Cosmos went 10-0, with only 1 goal scored against us in
regular season play, met Vipers AC in the finals for another shut out victory.
To this time, in the last 7 playoff games, Cosmos have held all opponents
scoreless!
The last placement meeting between Cosmos and Barcelona was early in the Spring
where Cosmos were able to top FC Barcelona in the Plano finals 2-0.
FC Barcelona enters this seasons finals with several advantages. They are coming
off of a recent Championship victory in a tough Mesquite Spookout tourny, as
well as several Runner-up finishes in tourny's throughout this season, also only
allowing 1 goal against in regular season play. They have won the regular season
1st place trophies in Fall '05, and Fall '06.
The Cosmos/Barcelona connection has met full circle with Coach Matt and myself
heading up a U7 girls team beginning this season.
Come out and support these two teams, they both deserve all the recognition they can get.
Good Luck Coach Matt, Barcelona, and the Mighty Cosmos!!!
